The Gun Control Debate

Gun control is a subject that courts a lot of opposition. Critiques of gun control will find every reason to resist and discredit gun control efforts despite good intentions. People opposed to gun control; for instance, the National Rifle Association will feel threatened by gun control as it touches on the business interests of its members as explained by Spitzer (25). The NRA and other opponents of gun control will argue that the Second Amendment grants each citizen of this country the right to bear arms. They will further argue that the lone shooters can use other forms of weapons to attack and cause deaths and injuries. They argue that the absence of a gun does not mean the absence of the intent and means to commit murder or a felony. To handle these critiques, I will table important statistics that will compare this country with others bearing the same level of development and the prevalence of gun-related crimes. Other controls; for instance, the control of explosives, will be brought up to show how efficient it can be to control important weaponry.
