Sexually Transmitted Diseases

STDs Overview

In the US and other part of the world, sexually transmitted diseases are the most critical and predicaments problem.  These affections mostly affect the skins, and these problems are dealt with in the department of dermatology. Sexually transmitted diseases are transmitted through sexual intercourse, caused by the parasites, bacteria or viruses. There is more than twenty sexually transmitted disease that includes; chlamydia, genital herpes, gonorrhea, HPV, syphilis, Trichomoniasis and HIV/AIDs (Brown & Tyring, 1999). Most of these diseases affected both youth and elders, but there are more severe to the youth at the adolescence stage. Therefore, the objective of this research paper is to explain the concept of STDs. 

Factor contributing to STDs

In the US,  the contextual factors that promoted to high rates of sexually transmitted disease are such as epidemiology of the illicit drugs among the youth, racial segregation, poverty, discrimination, incarceration rates and the ratio of men to women. All these factors led to the change of sexual networks and sexual behavior both indirectly and directly via various mechanisms. Racial disparities in America effectively contributed to high rates of STIs; this is because black Americans were highly associated with poverty in comparison with White American. Due to the high level of poverty many young Black American engaged in social immoralities like prostitutions thus increased risks rate of acquiring STDs. The other significant factors that contributed to this menace are the high rate of incarcerations among the youths, whereby they were sexually harassed in prison cells (Adminora & Schoenbach, 2005). Usage of drugs among youth creates a sense of carelessness and due to this many engaged in unprotected sexual intercourse. Also, due to the high population of women compared to men, many men involved in polygamous marriage thus leading to many cases of sexually transmitted Affections.

The main catalyst for more sexually transmitted infection among adolescent is early sexual initiation. In the United States many children engaged in sexual matters as early as thirteen, this contributed to acquiring of STIs at youngest age. Some of the factors that have contributed to early sexual initiation are lack of proper guidance from the parents, to a point teenagers have been engaged to clubs, discos and pubs without restrictions. Also, social media have contributed to sexually immoral behavior among adolescent through pornographic material exposure.

In the United States, the cases of young adolescent male that have sexual intercourse with men are rampant leading to high are Sexually transmitted disease. Most of the male adolescent developed this act of immorality due to peer pressure from friends thus results in anal infections (Jeffries et al., 2018). These led to a change of moral behavior among adolescent including drugs usages and prostitution. Some adolescent suffered stigmatizations and rejection that results in depressions. 

Current statistical results

Fourteen percent of the United States of American population comprises of young adults and adolescent who are 15-25 years old, yet the approximate 50% of STDs cases are reported annually. Both behavioral and socioeconomic factors contributed to the increment of STDs. Also, the location of the adolescent is another determinant factor (Pinto, Chinchilli & Du, 2018).  For instance, urban area has more sexually active adolescent (55%) as compared to the rural areas (32.3%). The current research claimed that 38.6% to 43.6% of the adolescent in rural have sex before 14 years while in urban 89% of the adolescent in urban have sex before 14 years.

Prevalence of STDs

According to the Department of Human Services and health in US, STDs are a critical problem among youth at adolescence stages. Approximately one-quarter of the teenagers are sexually active, and there are high probabilities that are suffering from STIs without their consent. Many of these sexually transmitted diseases resulted from specific risk-taking behaviors among teenagers. The risk factors determinant includes institutional factors, behavior practices, and psychological, biological and social factors. One of the crucial components used in the control of sexually transmitted diseases is education institutional (Yarber & Parrila, 1992). The central role of the educational institution was to educate the teenager on the repercussions of practicing unprotected sexual behaviors and appropriate procedure to deal with STDs infections. Some of the other comprehensive approaches that have been used to control the spreading of STDs in adolescence are such as effective clinical health, theory-based education, quality, and improving economic and social conditions. 

Role of health advocate

In controlling and preventing of sexually transmitted diseases, I have played my role through practicing of risk-reduction counseling to the teenager. Also, I have engaged in a matter of HIV testing to the patients and teenagers because many of them do not feel that they can be at the risk of acquiring these viruses (Emmanuel & Martinez, 2011). The reason why I have been visiting adolescent is to create an environment that enhances nonjudgmental risk counseling.  In the center for sexually transmitted diseases, I have recommended for routine and universal STDs testing to be free on charges in the United States. 

Problem identification

The best way to identify whether you have sexually transmitted diseases is to seek sexual health screening. This screening should be done on the regular basis because many sexually transmitted infection does not show any symptoms of infection, furthermore when the signs are likely to be on the genital regions (Rutledge et al., 2018). After tests indicate that infections are there, everyone should bear with them and engaged for medication and treatments without fear of unknown. Also, it is advisable to seek for counselors and abstains from any causes of STDs. 

Audience activity

Sexually transmitted diseases are the most problematic issues affecting most visional teenager both in developed and developing countries. It’s incredible that many teenagers exchanged their vision with these infections. In a simple question: have you ever thought about your life in a golden casket? Then take care before STDs clear the path of your dreams.

In conclusion, the sexually transmitted disease is a critical issue in the United States that is affecting many adolescents turning their dreams to nightmares. Most of the factors that have contributed to the spreading of sexually transmitted disease are primarily caused by poor parental guidance. The matter does not only affect the health of adolescent but also the entire life of him/her.
