There are many tools that allow you to develop a plan for a wireless network. Refer to “7 free Wi-Fi stumbling and surveying tools for Windows and Mac,” located in the topic readings, and choose one. Then briefly explain the benefits of using the tool you selected.

The tool I chose is the WirelessNetView. This is a windows based wifi stumbler that can detect wireless activity and will display the SSID and signal quality. Some of the benefits are that it can provide a better view on ways to give more security to the network. We are able to understand the quality of the network and how to improve it. One thing about it is that it can provide a simple text file that will have all of the data on it which is convenient.

I chose AirGrab WiFi Radar.

This is a MAC-based Wi-Fi stumbler. One benefit of this stumbler is that it is free. You do have the option to register but if you want to get rid of its snag screen then you will have to register. Wi-Fi radar shows the noise level which helps you with wireless surveying or troubleshooting. The SSID’s are located on the upper left of the GUI with just its MAC address and channel. The channel usage graph is located in the upper right side of the GUI. Since Air Grab Wi-Fi Radar offers noise levels you can calculate the signal-to-noise ration of AP’s. Since I love troubleshooting almost anything this seemed like a tool I would enjoy, and it is free.

The program I chose was “Acrylic Wi-Fi Free”, that is compatible for Windows and what this free hardware does is scan and analyze Wi-Fi (channels) networks (SSID/BSSID) around you. Studying and bringing to detail the frequencies that surround your network. For example, identifying what is causing your home networks devices hardship if you are having such ordeal. Identifying access points (devices), signal type and strength, WEP, WPA, WPA2 information, and device information with graphical detail. The free version only allows five device stack up, while the paid version allows you more usage of additional tools and storge of device artifacts.

Explain why you chose one company over another when developing the budget for the “Designing a Wireless Network” project.

Hello class,

The reason I chose Cisco over anyone else for the cases study of “college campus” was because Cisco is a well-known industrial company with it comes to IoT’s technology. They get what they takes to have a well performance operating system and operation at that. They have tested and backed their product or years, not only through innovation, but with support to back their product. They specialize in security, reliability, and speed when it comes to implementing a topology and not to mention future proofing products for years moving forward (hardware/software). It just made sense to go with a titan in the digital industry in creating a network for my cases study that I chose.

Most of the equipment I decided to employ for the network project was made by the reputable business Cisco. Cisco’s emphasis on security is one of the key justifications for using them. They are also regarded as the world’s largest networking company.
