Process of Care Paper

The process of care refers to an intervention or evidence based action which is usually carried out during provision of patient care. It is a tool used to determine whether a certain healthcare facility has the capacity to comply or even execute the predetermined patient care practices. Process of care utilizes empirical data and scientific evidence to determine whether a hospital has the power to adhere to healthcare regulations and guidelines. The aim of this paper is therefore to provide analyses of how a preselected hospital performs based on certain indicators versus two of its competitors. The paper will also include the pros and cons of publically reporting these data sets.
Three hospitals for process of care
There are various benefits associated with availability of a number of hospitals in locality or neighborhood. Local hospitals make it easy for the patients to have an opportunity to effectively manage chronic diseases, patient education and social pressure. In this paper, three major hospital facilities will be compared and analyzed. Those hospitals include South Florida Baptist Hospital, Bartow Regional Medical Center and South Bay Hospital. In this paper, South Florida Baptist Hospital will be juxtaposed against its two major competitors; Bartow Regional Medical Center and South Bay Hospital. The following indicators will be used to provide a comparative review of the aforementioned hospitals; complications, timely and effective care, use of medical imaging, readmission and deaths, value and payment of care.
Comparison
According the Medicare Hospital Comparison, the South Florida Baptist hospital has rate of 3 out of 5 while Bartow Regional Medical Center and South Bay Hospital have a rate of 3 out of 5 and 2 out of 5 respectively. The higher the rating associated to the hospital, the higher the quality of the services offered by respective hospital. The South Florida Baptist Hospital scored 80% while South Bay Hospital scores Bartow Regional Medical Center and South Bay Hospital scored 73% and 80% in communication respectively.
Comparative Study
The hospitals selected is South Florida Baptist Hospital. Bartow Regional Medical center and South Bay Hospital are the hospitals for comparison. South Florida Baptist Hospital is an acute care hospital. Compared to Bartow Regional Medical center and South Bay Hospital, South Florida Baptist Hospital is an acute care hospital (“SOUTH FLORIDA BAPTIST HOSPITAL,” n.d.). It provide emergency services and also provide lab results to their patients electronically. Nonetheless, unlike Bartow Regional Medical center and South Bay Hospital, South Florida Baptist Hospital has been providing operational procedures for blood vessels opening to heart attack patients within a time frame of 90 minute upon the arrival of the patient (“Hospital Compare Quality,” n.d.). This hospital has had several incidences of serious patient complications same as that of the national record. However, it has a lower death rate of heart attack patients as compared to Bartow Regional Medical center and South Bay Hospital. It is notable that this hospital has a high death rate record of patients having critical treatable complications after undergoing surgery (“Hospital Compare Quality,” n.d.). Unlike, Bartow Regional Medical center and South Bay Hospital, it offers medical imaging services such as imaging stress examination prior to surgery for the low-risk outpatients. Unlike Bartow Regional Medical center and South Bay Hospital, it does not have any healthcare infection incident recorded so far (“Hospital Compare Quality,” n.d.)
Bartow Regional Medical Center on the other hand just as South Bay Hospital and unlike South Florida Baptist Hospital, it is not providing any extra care service to outpatients. Just like South Bay Hospital and South Florida Baptist Hospital, it cares for heart attack patients (“Hospital Compare Quality,” n.d.). But unlike, South Florida Baptist Hospital and South Bay Hospital, provides full care to patients with pneumonia in form of providing them with the proper and adequate initial antibiotics. Similar to South Bay Hospital, Bartow Regional Medical Center is not providing emergency departmental care and as well lacks most preventive care services. Bartow Regional Medical Center just like South Bay Hospital and South Florida Baptist Hospital, it has a record of surgical complications as well as a death record of after surgery patients (“Hospital Compare Quality,” n.d.). It also has a record of surgery complication. Similar to South Bay Hospital and South Florida Baptist Hospital, it has a high rate of heart attack patients. But unlike South Bay Hospital and South Florida Baptist Hospital, Bartow Regional Medical Center does not offer its patients any sort of medical imaging services.
Notably, the comparative study has shown some very important patient care information essential for quality of care evaluation for hospitals. It is mandatory and a responsibility for every health care facility to report patient care indicators to the public. Reporting these indicators is very important and is advantageous to the healthcare institution as it ensure that transparency is kept between the healthcare facility and the public, and such kind of transparency is essential in facilitating success and high quality patient care. Additionally, public reporting helps in motivating health care institutions to progressively work on improving their services and health care processes which helps them to gain a competitive advantage over its competitors within healthcare industry. This is also beneficial for the public since they will receive better and high quality health care services. However, publicly reporting can be disadvantageous since it exposes the strategies of the health care facility in ensuring their success and this leads to unhealthy competition as other healthcare institutions will copy the strategy.
