One way I think nurses can promote the image of nursing through professional behavior is by responding to patients in a way that makes the patient feel comfortable and heard. I personally believe that going to a health care setting scares many because not understanding what is happening to them or being scared something will happen against their will. When nurses communicate to a patient in terms where the patient is comfortable, I believe that dispels the notion that nurses let anything happen and are careless with their patient. This will also help the patient feel like the nurse is knowledgeable and is getting adequate care. This helps dispels the notion that only a doctor has knowledge. This allows open dialogues which can make the nurse more comfortable with the patient and the patient more comfortable with the nurse.

When using social media nurses should demonstrate proper use by following all laws and regulations of not posting patients or a patient’s information on social media. Nurses can also help promote the image of nursing through social media by not speaking negatively on nursing careers to prospective nursing students.

It is important for an organization like the National Student Nurses Association to promote a positive image to nursing students who have yet graduated because this will help retain those students to become nurses. It will also help promote more confidence in nurse graduates entering the workforce while also getting those graduates knowledge of the best ways to act and promote yourself in the workforce.

One way I think that nurses can promote a better image of nursing through professionalism is by empathizing with their patients and making their patients feel more at ease. By asking their patient’s calmer especially those patients who have a difficult time in hospitals or any kind of health care settings is a good way to promote nursing. I also think that communication is essential for a nurse. Good communication is another way to ensure that a patient is well informed and helps to ease a patient’s nerves about what may be happening to them. Many people feel nervous in a healthcare setting because they do not understand what is going on or they do not understand the medical terminology. Communication from the nurse to the patient explaining procedures and medications eases a person who may not understand. 

Using social media for nurses is a good way to promote nursing but always needs to be held with a great deal of carefulness as to not violate any laws or to break HIPPA. Social media is a great way to promote nursing to the younger generation who may not know what they want to do. This will also help to inspire those nursing students in their programs. 

Lastly, I think it is very important that an organization like the National Student Nursing Association promotes a positive image of Nursing. I also think that they need to help dismay many negative images that several people try to paint nursing. it is vital to help keep those people who aspire to be a nurse or those that are in their nursing program. It is also important for those new graduate nurses who are just starting their first nursing job so they may be confident in their work.
