While taking into consideration my profession, experience, and career plans, it is essential to have a comprehensive understanding of the nature of industrial relations and trade unions. Some industries are highly affected by labor and industrial strikes, an aspect that can affect adversely on my career. Although the National Labor Relations Board provides guidelines for the lawful filing of complaints, collective action can occur rendering the situation uncontrollable. The objective of trade unions and industrial relations is to protect employees from unhealthy working conditions and unfair wages.

Wages and remuneration

The concept of wages and remuneration brings several factors such as experience, performance, seniority, potential, and sheer luck. The interaction between these factors can motivate or de-motivate an individual from pursuing a given career path. Different professions offer different payment packages while others provide retirement benefits. The level of an individual in a management hierarchy determines how much an individual ought to be paid. For instance, young managers usually get paid more due to their potential to perform well, despite the fact that they have little experience.

Employee rights

Understanding the application of employee rights in the labor market assists a lot in defining what is right or wrong. Employees are accorded a right to organize or bargain collectively for better working conditions, wages and protection against uncertainty. Employees are usually protected by the law against union misconduct and certain employers’ behavior. Such rights will affect my career path since I have to conduct due diligence before entering into an employment contract with some employers. I have to take into account the confines of the law in relation to certain employers and unions.
