Immigration policies

 Based on the three types of immigration law, I hold the view that the United States should pursue humanitarian law in the future. According to the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (2019), these are laws that seek to protect people in need of help or shelter from oppression, disaster, emergency medical services, or other circumstances that are urgent. Pursuing humanitarian law will enable people to access residency or citizenship into the U.S. based on certain humanitarian grounds that are entrenched in law.

The first reason why I advocate for the pursuit of humanitarian law is that most people who immigrate into the U.S., do so to seek financial empowerment opportunities so that they can uplift their families in their native countries (Cooper, 2016). Even though certain illegal immigrants have been linked to negative social events such as crime, most people seek gainful employment opportunities in the U.S. to escape the harsh realities at home where they face poverty, illnesses, political dictatorship, and other political, economic, and social ills. It is, therefore, important to be humane in the treatment of immigrants so that they can achieve their dreams and aspirations. Humanitarian laws would accomplish this objective. 

The second reason is that the U.S. needs immigrant populations to boost its labor force and grow the economy. Native Americans alone cannot sustain the economy and perform all the jobs. It is, therefore, in the best interest of the United States to attract immigrants who can provide labor and facilitate economic growth and development (Cooper, 2016). Applying humanitarian laws would accomplish this goal since it would enable people in the U.S. to use humanitarian grounds to attract immigrants and boost their levels of economic growth and development. 

In conclusion, the US should implement humanitarian law to attract immigrants into the country and enable them to escape the challenges they encounter in their native countries. Moreover, humanitarian laws would provide the much-needed labor that the U.S. requires to grow and develop its economy. For these reasons, the U.S. should employ humanitarian laws when dealing with immigrant issues in the future.
