Domestic Violence

The following are warning signs of domestic violence
A violent person will often be jealous and will be asking questions related to an individual’s personal issues.
If a partner has controlling behaviors which might first be confused with concern for the victim
If there is quick involvement. Short dating periods and forced commitments
Existence of unrealistic expectations in terms of emotions, finances, and domestic roles.
If a partners isolates a victim from their family, friends, workmates, and sources of support, and resources.
An abuser will blame others for his/her problems and feelings
An abuser is hypersensitive when faced with the slightest challenge
An abuser will be cruel to animals, children and other helpless people, for instance, waiters
An abuser will be forceful with sex and be playful at the same time
Verbal abuse is common with abusers
Expression of dual roles is common with abusers
The Patriarchal Theory is an important theory that is used to explain domestic violence. It justifies violence against women and children as a means to preserve domination and control in a family set-up (Okin, 2016). In the theory, men are viewed as the controlling access to institutional power which is often designed to suit their needs. It is somewhat conspirational. The theory fits the bill when explaining domestic violence since men who abuse women (majority of the perpetrators) often view women as the second class citizens. In the theory, perpetrators have been perceived to be motivated by their selfish interests which they project towards women. Women often find themselves at the receiving end due to the position that they hold in terms of their sexuality and physical strength as explained by Suzuki (2017).
