Boycott Divest and Sanction- The BDS Movement
In my career on Ministry Leadership in the Pro-Israel community, there are many issues and challenges that are likely to face it. To carry out further research into this, I searched “challenges facing Ministry Leadership in the Pro-Israel community”. Among the issues being considered include the contentious debate on Boycott Divest and Sanction or (The BDS movement). This issue is likely to be problematic not just on what the BDS stands for but also on how it influences the political dynamics in America and the antisemitic positions that it seemingly seeks to promote.
The Boycott Divest and Sanction movement was founded in the pretense of encouraging a “two-state solution”. Contrary to this objective, the BDS movement can be seen aiming at the destruction of Israel as a Jewish state. The movement calls for all Palestinian refugees to be absorbed into Israel, which would result in the extinction of the Jewish state (Bernestein, 2019). This would in itself undo the original intention for the creation of a nation with Jewish sovereignty, which was to ensure that they were a place for Jewish refugees to fall back to in times of persecution and that they would have a state that would protect them. This issue might impact the Ministry Leadership in that the calls by the BDS movement agitates the community, which might see it escalating to a full-blown conflict.
The BDS movement issue has remained a hot topic for debate among the USA legislators. Two members of Congress, Rashida Tlaib and Ilhan Omar, have openly expressed support for the BDS movement. The issue has found its way in Congress in the form of a Bill that penalizes and offers protection to states that penalize Israel boycotters. This has augured well with Rashida Tlaib, who is a Palestinian-American congresswoman who indicated that supporters of the Bill had forgotten what country they represented. The outcome of this bill is likely to influence the career in Ministry leadership in a pro-Israel community as it would like to leave a more divided community as evident among the political leaders. These issues have brought back the anti-Semitic positions as the argument is indicated to not seek freedom and equality, but rather seek the destruction of Israel (Kampeas, 2019), which is clearly against my position as a pro-Israel.
